Memories of Gus-Gus

Today was a very sad day for me because I had to make the decision to put Gus-Gus down.  He was only four years old, yet he had a growth in his stomach that was most likely cancerous.  The doctor said that to find out, they would have had to open him up, and he most likely would not have made it.

I don't understand it, and I don't like it, but there it is.  I would love for those people who knew Gus-Gus aka Big Face, to leave some comments recounting their favorite memories of him.  It will be nice for me to remember the good times with him, and you can help me to do that.

Thank you in advance to all those who will contribute.

So... I finally landed my first babysitting gig. Well it wasn't for a baby, but a 4 year old. This little toddler was quite furry with four velvet playful paws. I'd call him a cat, but he just had too much of a human personality to be considered an animal of any species.

Anyway, I thought the job would be easy. I mean how hard could it be to take care of some cats. I learned the answer to this question almost immediately.

It started fine. I fed them, played with them and changed their litter. I was supposed to just check in, but they were so much fun that I accidentally stayed for 4 hours. Oops.

The next morning I planned a quick visit after feeding them but walked in to a surprise. There was cat vomit all over the couch. What would cause such an illness? Well laying on the floor was a ripped open and completely empty kitty treats bag. These treats are not meant to be eaten like cat food, but Gus Gus did not care about this silly little cat treat rule. I was so shocked. I raced home and asked what to do and was told to hide their treats. I looked around their home for a good hiding place. There wasn't such a place. These crazy cats could get into anything. In desperation I decided to put the bag into the refrigerator.
That worked!!! Those cats could do just about anything, but not open a fridge.

Every day that Megan was gone, both cats would wait by the door hoping to hear Megan's steps and her jingle of keys. They were so sad without her. I would talk to them and tickle their tummies and just hug those kitties. They were patient with my attempts to cheer them up, but they let me know in sweet little ways that though I was kind and wonderful, I was not Megan.

I am so grateful to have had the chance to spend so much time with these special kitties. I know that Gus Gus is causing a crazy ruckus up in heaven, but God can handle him.

I look forward to babysitting Cecelia, so I can whispers stories about her brother and keep his mellow memory alive.

  2. I absolutely LOVED him for his laid back, goofy and sweet personality. It made me so happy to come home and play fetch with him or watch you brush the furballs off of him. I loved his little voice and his odd little pterodactyl like meow. Not many cats willingly let anyone pick them up and cuddle with them.

  3. I just love that face -- What I think of is the time that you took pictures of Jordana with the cats - soon after you moved into Linda's place. I remember her playing with him and wanting to touch that big ball of moving fur! I think of all the giggles he brought you and how much you loved him. It makes me sad that he's gone but happy to think that hes playing with Snoop dog in heaven!

  4. He was so mellow and so beautiful, and so lucky to have lived his life with you! He is waiting in the Rainbow Bridge now.

  5. I was so confused at first... a cat named after a mouse? But what a cutie. I know this must be difficult. Remember - "I (and you too) can do all things through Christ who strengthens (us)" . Hugs and prayers.... Theresa

  6. Hi Megan I so sorry to hear about Gus-Gus , I remember commenting about his cool pose on facebook about 3 months ago . He is so cool looking if he was mine I would have walked him on a leash like a puppy.
